Avery Largent

Avery Largent is a doctoral student in the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program at the University of Texas at Austin. A three-time Longhorn, she earned dual bachelors degrees in Psychology and Humanities Honors before completing her Master of Science in Nursing.

Before entering nursing, Avery spent four years conducting psychology and neurology research examining the biopsychosocial factors that influence cognitive health and quality of life in individuals with multiple sclerosis and Alzheimerss disease. She later transitioned into neurology and psychiatric nursing, caring for children and adults with complex neurological, behavioral, and psychiatric conditions. Her clinical experience includes supporting individuals recovering from stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and other neurological disorders while partnering with families as they navigate the emotional and practical challenges that often accompany life-changing medical events. These experiences inspired her passion for helping individuals, couples, and families adapt to major health changes while preserving meaningful relationships and quality of life.

Avery has a special interest in working with individuals and families affected by dementia, neurodevelopmental conditions, neurological disorders, and the intersection of medical and mental health concerns. She believes healing happens best within a trusting, collaborative relationship where clients feel safe to be themselves. She is passionate about providing compassionate, collaborative care grounded in the best available research and is committed to integrating evidence-based practices into every aspect of her work. She strives to provide care that is inclusive, culturally responsive, and accessible, approaching each client with humility, curiosity, and respect for their unique lived experiences. She believes that effective therapy combines scientific evidence with genuine human connection, recognizing that every clients experiences, strengths, and goals are unique.

Outside of work, Avery enjoys aerial silks, playing sand volleyball, discovering new music, and spending time with her family.
